The28th Bomb Squadronis assigned to the 7th Operations Group, Global Strike Command, stationed at Dyess Air Force Base,Texas. The 28th is one of the oldest and most decorated units in the United States Air Force, being organized as the 28th Aero Squadron on 22 June 1917 at Camp Kelly, Texas. The squadrondeployed to France and fought on the Western Frontduring World War Ias a pursuit squadron. The unit was demobilized after the war in 1919. The squadron was reactivated multiple times over the past 100 years, most recently on 1 July 1987 and redesignated as the 28th Bomb Squadron on 1 September 1991. The 28th Bomb Squadron is now the training squadron for B-1B pilots and weapons system officers.
